The United States and South Korea remain technically still at war with North Korea after the 1950-53 Korean conflict ended with a truce, not a peace treaty. "We do not seek an excuse to garrison USA troops north of the Demilitarized Zone", the officials said, addressing some of Pyongyang's fears that Washington ultimately intends to replace the reclusive country's leadership. Protesters in North Carolina have toppled a long-standing statue of a Confederate soldier.
