Following the quake, that struck at 3:59 p.m. local time at a depth of zero miles, China's earthquake-monitoring agency said it suspected that the quake was caused by an explosion. Satellite photos of the area after the September 3 quake showed numerous landslides apparently caused by the massive blast, which North Korea said was a hydrogen bomb. (more...)

China's foreign minister on Thursday called on North Korea not to go further in a "dangerous direction" with its nuclear program and said negotiations were the only way out of the crisis over Pyongyang's weapons development. China will suspend such exports once the total exports approaches the ceiling, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), however, said that the tremor was measured at three-point-four on the Richter scale and it was due to a "suspected explosion".
