Hurricane Jose , which is taking more of a northerly track, Hurricane Katia, which slammed into Mexico's east coast, and of course Hurricane Irma which made its US landfall in Florida. Over the next five days, it will slowly wobble northeast, then southeast, then southwest and complete a tiny circuit in the middle of the ocean. Dogs left in pens and parked cars, and even dogs chained up or tethered to trees, have been among the hundreds of abandoned animals rescued by Palm Beach County Animal Care in the lead-up to and wake of Hurricane Irma. "We will find you, and we will prosecute you". Calling the behavior "animal cruelty", officials said they have been able to rescue 49 dogs and two cats who were abandoned by their owners as Irma made its way to Florida. (more...)

Katia was downgraded to a tropical storm from a hurricane when it was about 185 km northwest of Veracruz with sustained winds of 65kph, the centre said. But Irma's magnitude could inhibit Jose's career, says Phil Klotzbach, hurricane specialist at Colorado State University. Martin. Katia was downgraded to a tropical storm from a hurricane when it was about 115 miles (185 km) northwest of Veracruz with sustained winds of 40 mph (65 km/h), the centre said in an advisory. Crews were looking into a small fuel leak after the plane went down. He watched the plane crash right in front of his eyes. The incident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration. Jose remains far east of Irma, out in the Atlantic, while Katia is centred off the eastern coast of Mexico in the Gulf. Jose and Katia joined Irma as hurricanes on Wednesday, according to the National Hurricane Center . Jose could become a hurricane as soon as today. FEMA chief Brock Long has said some places won't have electricity for weeks. Hurricane Irma is no more , having become a tropical storm this morning. Evacuations were issued there, sending people streaming north and west. Tom Durr, a 66-year-old retired physician who along with his wife, Lorraine, fled their house near a large bay on the Gulf Coast on Tuesday for a small farm they own in North Carolina, said he does not expect much to be left when they return.
