But unlike other animals that slumber, jellyfish don't have a central nervous system . Despite this, recent studies have shown that the jellyfish Cassiopea became the first known animal that is able to sleep, while not having a brain. To do this, the researchers pulsed water at the animals every 10 seconds for 20 minutes, effectively "poking" them to keep them awake. Cassiopea jellies prefer sitting to swimming, so the suspended jellies pulsed their way down to the tank floor. (more...)

A Christmas Story Live! will air Sunday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. on Fox. It's being produced by Warner Horizon Television.
