A recording of communications between the space station and NASA stated that Hague and Ovchinin had experienced 6.7 G's - about the same as Apollo astronauts felt during re-entry, according to Air & Space magazine. The Soyuz capsule carrying them separated from the malfunctioning rocket and made what is called a steep ballistic descent with parachutes helping slow its speed. (more...)

The NHC said that it could hit anywhere along the Florida Panhandle or Florida Big Bend area. FEMA crews have used heavy equipment, sniffer dogs, drone aircraft and global positioning satellites in their search. Michael weakened as it charged over the southeastern United States, but still carried high winds and delivered drenching rains to Georgia, the Carolinas and Virginia, causing flooding. (more...)

The New Glenn is a reusable orbital vehicle created to land back on Earth after launch. The last major hurricane - Category 3 or above - to hit the Panhandle was Hurricane Dennis, which made landfall near Pensacola in 2005, according to hurricane center data. There have been at least two reported deaths in the US since Michael made landfall along the Florida Panhandle Wednesday afternoon as a Category 4 hurricane . The launch lifted off from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 4:40 a.m. ET, but just six minutes after launch, Roscosmos reported that there was an issue with the booster , as reported by Loren Grush at The Verge . Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said all manned launches will be suspended pending an investigation into the cause of the failure. Despite the fact that Hubble uses three gyros at a given single time for maximum efficiency, it can go on with scientific observations with just one of them, NASA said. The Hubble Space Telescope had to be placed into safe mode after it encountered a major issue on Friday, Oct. 5.
