Researchers also published a recipe for those who don't want to pay 20 USA dollars to buy the dirt. The new substance will also now provide a standardized scientifically-founded base for researchers to accurately compare experiments. The Curiosity rover brought our understanding of Martian soil even further, discovering minerals such as feldspar, pyroxenes, and olivine - all of which are found on Earth, particularly in basaltic soils (weathered basaltic soils, to be more precise). For comparison, the average distance between Earth and the Moon is 238,855 miles . The 2015 flyby was the closest the eerie comet has come to earth. It's not possible for the human eye to see the asteroid because its diameter is only 2,000 feet. Comet tails are tails of dust and gas that stream behind a comet due to solar radiation. (more...)

The colour photos were captured by the hopping rovers as they set about exploring the asteroid's surface. Like MINERVA-II1A and MINERVA-II1B, MASCOT will move by hopping rather than rolling, which is a good thing, given the roughness of Ryugu's surface, and the asteroid's low gravity, which makes traditional roving a nonstarter. They then "hopped" around on the surface of the asteroid, taking snaps of their surroundings. The deployed rovers are placed into a odd world where the surface gravity on Ryugu is only 1/80,000th the gravity of the Earth. "Therefore, this hopping mechanism was adopted for moving across the surface of such small celestial bodies". As quoted on the projects website , Yuichi Tsuda, a project manager, was at a loss for words when the rovers' on-asteroid hopping ability was first confirmed on ... (more...)
