The so-called Waste Prevention Rule was aimed at reducing leaks of natural gas, or methane, that occur through venting and flaring during oil and gas production on federal land. Sen. Tom Udall, a Democrat from New Mexico, criticized the rollback as a "giveaway to irresponsible polluters". Within hours of the administration's announcement, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra announced he would challenge the rewritten rule in court. (more...)

To prevent those routes from being flooded, cutting off Horry County and virtually turning the Myrtle Beach area into an island, transportation officials plan to build a mile-long barrier along the Lynches River to keep USA 378 passable. A woman and her baby were among the first casualties, when a tree fell on their house, contributing to a death toll that the USA media said had reached 13 - 10 in North Carolina and three in SC, according to CNN.
