The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) says it has stopped 21 Canadian vessels this year in contested waters in the Bay of Fundy, and has no intention of stopping. "Border Patrol does not board Canadian Vessels in the grey zone without consent or probable cause and only conduct (s) interviews as a vessel runs parallel to it, bow to stern", a spokesman said in the statement. Whether or not we believe that cap and trade or carbon taxes or whatever, actually improves the environment is a moot point; we should be concerned that the government is running up a huge bill to nix the programs. The government's press release states that it may continue to fund "specific initiatives" out of general tax revenue, but the decisions on which ones it will keep will be "made on a case-by-case basis". The popularity of the ESA could explain why its opponents are forced to hide their true intentions. This bill prescribes an inappropriate, lopsided role for states for implementing the federal ESA. Future research can investigate the asteroids of the middle and outer main belt, Dermott said. "I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually trace the origins of all asteroids in the main asteroid belt, not just those in the inner belt, to a small number of known parent bodies". (more...)

As for why this planet's gassy home remains, the researchers said they aren't yet sure. The instrument SPHERE can measure the intensity of brightness at various wavelengths of the planet, which helped the scientists to decide properties of surrounding atmosphere. (more...)

The shining star to this entire thing is supposed to be Lockheed Martin Aeronautics' X-59 "QueSST", which is created to produce sonic thumps rather than the booming sounds other jet fighters usually give out. "Instead of getting a loud boom-boom, you're going to get at least two quiet thump-thump sounds, if you even hear them at all". A heatwave in Britain has forced authorities in Northern Ireland to impose the first hosepipe ban in 23 years, Sky News reports. Before arriving at Ceres, Dawn explored the asteroid Vesta. Chief engineer Marc Rayman of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, says the results are better than hoped. Dawn began orbiting Ceres in March 2015, spiraling closer and closer toward the dwarf planet over time. Carol Raymond, Dawn's principal investigator, said: "The first views of Ceres obtained by Dawn beckoned us with a single, blinding bright spot". (more...)
