The West Nile virus continues to spread throughout the United States of America and has claimed its 35th life in 2018. At this time, there remain no confirmed human cases of the disease in Anderson County; however, the Emergency Management Division is taking appropriate mitigation and abatement actions in the affected areas. Gluten is a general name for the proteins found in wheat, rye, and barley and is suggested to affect the development of type 1 diabetes. It typically takes about two weeks for the vaccine to build antibodies and begin offering protection. West Nile virus is spread to people through the bite of an infected mosquito and is not transmitted person to person. The agency says confirmed cases have been reported in Lyon, Marion, Neosho, Seward, and Wichita counties. Three state residents tested positive for the virus in all of 2017. Health officials suggest reducing the risk of mosquito bites by wearing mosquito repellent and light-colored clothing with long sleeves and trousers, and checking screens on windows and doors for tears ...
