Haiti: 10 Americans held for rape of immigration laws
American citizens are detained in Port-au-Prince for “alleged violation of Haitian laws on immigration, on Sunday confirmed the Embassy of the United States, following an alleged attempted child abduction.
Ten Americans were detained by Haitian authorities for alleged violation of Haitian laws on immigration, “said the U.S. embassy in Port-au-Prince, in an email sent to AFP.
Saturday, Haiti’s Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Yves Christallin announced that ten Americans, five men and five women, were arrested near the Dominican border, along with thirty children they had by him “stolen”.
“The Americans are currently held by the Haitian police,” said the U.S. embassy in Port-au-Prince, without providing details on the place of their detention.
“Representatives of the U.S. embassy were able to meet detainees” and were “in contact with the Haitian authorities,” the embassy said.
Many children have been adopted since the earthquake that devastated Haiti January 12, killing 170,000 people and laying on the street one million people.
