A $100,000 reward has reportedly been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Australia's strawberry spikers, amid fears up to six brands may have been contaminated with needles and pins. The Queensland premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk , has issued the reward over concerns for growers as well as consumers. "The contamination relates to what appears to be sewing needles and pins inserted in strawberries". (more...)

Nearly half of the retail selling price of petrol and diesel is made up of central and state taxes. Just posting this as a warning to anyone that has bought strawberries (Berry Obsessions) from Woolworths recently. The spokesperson said: 'The safety of our customers is our priority and anyone concerned about their health should seek medical advice'. GM announced on Thursday that it was recalling more than 1 million pickup trucks and SUVs to fix a software issue that could cause the vehicles to temporarily lose power steering. DETROIT (AP) - General Motors is recalling more than 240,000 vehicles, mainly in the USA and Canada, to fix a problem that could hamper rear brake performance. GM said that about 210,000 of the recalled vehicles were sold new in the US, while the others were delivered to Canada. GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson said the automaker has received reports of 30 crashes and two injuries, but no deaths linked to the recall. (more...)

The participation rate ticked up to 65.7 percent, beating forecasts for 65.6 percent and up from 65.5 percent in the previous month. It is also the measure of unemployment most highly correlated with wage growth. Unemployment increased 5,800 to 708,800. The unemployment rate remained steady at 5.3%. But Mr James warned the proportion of people in jobs or looking for work was only a "smidgen" below all-time highs. (more...)
