Google to roll out redesigned News tab

Google announces redesign for News tab in desktop Search

Again, this is very much like the Google News app/site.

Google is updating the desktop version of its News tab to make it more obvious which outlet you're reading and make the headline more prominent - basically making it look a lot like the search giant's main news site. There are fewer links per page, but individual stories are featured more prominently. The company introduced Material Design icons for parts of the search UI in June, and it's now starting to roll out a new look for News on Search.

"Over the next couple weeks we're rolling out a redesigned News tab in Search on desktop", Google wrote in the tweet. Right now, the results are separated into different sections and it's frankly quite cluttered, but the new interface addresses that issues by introducing independent cards that allow News to emphasize the publisher name.

First West Nile case in Iowa this year reported
Mosquitoes are all over the Valley, so residents across Maricopa County need to protect themselves whenever they are outside. Rarely, about 1 in 150 people infected can develop meningitis or encephalitis, or inflammation of the brain and spinal cord.

However, the most striking change coming out with this redesign is the new card-based layout, which more closely resembles the Google News experience on mobile devices. There is more white space, but readers will be able to see more of a preview of each story.

The News tabon Google's search results pages is a pretty big deal when you're trying to keep up with the world: for many people, it's their quickest way to find news stories on topics they're interested in.

It is unclear if the new design with favour larger publishers.
