Man arrested after climbing Buckingham Palace gates

The front gates of Buckingham Palace

Oh dear: In the wee hours of the morning, an intruder climbed the gates of Buckingham Palace all while Queen Elizabeth was in there and sleeping.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested after climbing over the front gates of Buckingham Palace while the Queen was in residence.

"This intruder got into the palace nearly 37 years to the day since Michael Fagan managed to get inside the queen's bedroom", the source revealed to The Sun.

The palace spokeswoman declined to say whether the Queen had been informed of the incident.

According to The Sun the intruder, who tried to get inside the palace, was on the loose in the grounds for around four minutes before he was apprehended.

An intruder broke into the Royal Family HQ in central London at 2am while the Queen was asleep just metres away. He said he had been there a month before, at which time he had a good look around the palace before stealing a snack of cheese and crackers.

"How is it possible all these years later that someone can climb the fence and get right inside the grounds without being stopped immediately?"

Two days later the Metropolitan Police apologised to the Duke of York after officers challenged him in the gardens of Buckingham Palace at around 6pm. "The Queen's safety should be paramount".

Another source added: "Everyone knows the Queen was there because the Royal Standard was flying".

This isn't the first time a member of the public has got too close to the Queen for comfort.

Michael Fagan was able to break into the palace in 1982.

The 31-year-old schizophrenic then began talking to her about his family problems.

During the chat the Queen pushed the panic button by her bed but got no response, and it wasn't until her aide Paul Whybrew retruend with her corgis that he saw Fagan.

During the incident Fagan smashed a large glass ashtray and threatened to slash his wrists.

The Queen managed to raise the alarm when Fagan asked for a cigarette, allowing her to call for a footman who held him until police arrived.
