Gatwick operational again but passengers should check flight status

Gatwick airport halts all flights due to control tower problem

"We are working with ANS, our air traffic control provider, to rectify this issue as quickly as possible", the statement added, referring to Air Navigation Solutions (ANS), a private company that has controlled plane movements at the airport since 2016.

Scores of flights were diverted and thousands of people left stranded at Gatwick as technicians tried to resolve an air traffic control issue, which was first reported at 5.45 pm (UK). The airport did not say what the problem might have been.

One departure and 11 arrivals have been cancelled on Thursday, the airport has confirmed.

The suspension has been in place since roughly 5pm on Wednesday. Flights were suspended for over 30 hours, affecting some 140,000 passengers.
