Hannah Green can build career around her 'trademark courage'

Australia's Hannah Green used her superb iron play to maintain a one-stroke lead heading into the final round of the Women's PGA Championship at Hazeltine golf course in Minnesota

With Webb looking on nervously from the galleries, the 22-year-old Green kept her composure to get up-and-down from a greenside bunker at the last, sinking a four-foot putt to pip defending champion Park Sung-hyun by a stroke.

Kay and Kim were guests at the tournament, amateur golfers who were awarded past year the scholarships from Webb's development program for Australian women that she created in 2007.

Green, in only her second full year on the LPGA Tour, is the first wire-to-wire victor of this major since 2011.

In only her second full year on the LPGA Tour, Green became the first wire-to-wire victor of this major since Yani Tseng in 2011.

Park, playing in the group ahead, was not done though.

"I always wanted to win in front of an Aussie crowd, " Green said.

"I really didn't want to play that hole again, so I'm just really happy that I made it".

Leading by one shot from Thailand's Ariya Jutanagarn going into the final round, Green got to 10-under for the tournament with a birdie on the second hole.

Reavie put the tournament away on the par-4 17th, making a 14-foot birdie putt, while Bradley three-putted for a double bogey. Green played short off the tee and hit wedge into 6 feet for a birdie, that would have given her a four-shot lead.

Green was a long way from Perth, but it felt like she had plenty of support in the Midwest.
