The US Has Allegedly Placed Malware Deep In Russia's Power Grid

New York Times publisher A.G. Sulzberger has said President Donald Trump's attacks on the press are

The placement of the malware that deep within the Russian grid had never previously been attempted, the Times reports, and is intended partly as a warning and also to put the United States in a position to conduct cyber attacks should a significant conflict arise with Russia.

No matter what happens this election cycle or the next, the one thing we can be assured of, is that Donald Trump will not go quietly.

Two admin officials claimed Trump had not been briefed "in any detail" about the alleged efforts to place "implants" a kind of software code, inside the Russian grid.

The newspaper, basing its reports on three months of interviews with current and former government officials, said this campaign was conducted under new cyber authorities granted by Trump and Congress.

On Sunday morning, President Donald Trump, angered by the story, took to Twitter to blast both the New York Times and the Washington Post, calling both "the Enemy of the People".

While some prior reports of Russian intrusion into USA power systems have been shown to be exaggerated, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Homeland Security warned previous year that Russian state-linked hackers appear to have been probing parts of the energy grid for weaknesses.

Ebola in DRC, not a health emergency of international concern

The New York Times report alleged how Pentagon and other intelligence officials were hesitant to tell the president details about operations against Russian Federation for concern of his reaction and that he might undo their plans. Trump said that the paper was "failing" and is "so desperate for a story, any story, even if bad for our Country".

Trump has claimed the Russian Federation report and booming economy are grounds for a high approval rating, and laments polls that show otherwise are 'fake'.

The incursion into the Russian electric power grid seems to have been conducted under new legal authorities in the military authorisation bill passed by Congress a year ago, the Times reports.

Under the law, those actions can now be authorised by the defence secretary without special presidential approval.

Trump, on June 16 continued his criticisms of the New York Times, this time including the Washington Post.

Current and former officials tell the Times the United States has put reconnaissance probes into the Russian grid since at least 2012. "As our story notes, President Trump's own national security officials said there were no concerns".
