A message from PlayStation Support reads: "You may have some difficulty signing in or creating an account on PlayStation Network".

In a day highlighted by technical problems, PlayStation Network, the online service allowing users to connect their console for online gaming and streaming, has reportedly crashed.

According to the outage tracking site Downdetector, the server issues are mostly happening in Europe.

Customers trying to use core multiplayer functions are finding themselves unable to access the network, meaning that they can't play games or use other functions of the PSN.

Sony's official Twitter account addressed the issue via a statement. No further tweets have been shared, but the most recent update on the PSN status page came at 2:26 PM PT and reiterates that Sony's "engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible". "Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible". There's no word on how long this may last or when servers will come back online.

It said: "We're aware that some users are experiencing issues logging into PSN".

Naturally, this news hasn't gone down well online. Error ws-37403-7 is popping up across the board for users worldwide.

Many users who attempted to log onto PSN were met with an error code 'WS-37403-7'. I've looked this up on the PlayStation website and it apparently doesn't exist?!?

The problems peaked around 8pm with the number of gamers experiencing issues rising. This must be really PSN people off.
