Pelosi on Trump insults: 'I'm done with him'

President Donald Trump speaks on the South Lawn at the White House

Trump lashed out at the speaker in an interview with Fox News from the Normany American Cemetery in France last week after reports revealed Pelosi told top House Democrats that she wanted to see the president in "prison" rather than impeached.

"I'm done with him", she said Tuesday at an event hosted by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation.

For part of Trump's presidency, he generally refrained from trash-talking Pelosi as he does many others, but that ended in recent weeks as Democrats intensified their investigations of the president and discussed possibly impeaching him. The speaker defended her position with, "I say nearly every day that the president is involved in a criminal cover-up, he just chose to pick it up that day".

The Hill noted Pelosi was also in France to commemorate the D-Day anniversary.

Pelosi responded, "When we have conversations in our caucus they stay in our caucus". How serious are they?

Pelosi contrasted her behaviour in Normandy with the President's saying that when she was interviewed she deliberately did not attack the President.

Nadler said the US House of Representatives intends to get testimony from former Special Counsel Robert Mueller in the near future and will subpoena him if necessary.

"So I just wasn't going to engage in that", Pelosi said on Thursday, "but I never do anyway, it's our practice".

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) holds her weekly news conference with Capitol Hill reporters in Washington, U.S., May 23, 2019.

And so far, only one Republican lawmaker in Congress has indicated they would support an impeachment inquiry: Justin Amash of MI.

She said that even on the question of rebuilding US infrastructure, which Trump had often said he wanted to do, "when it came to pay for it, he diverted attention to personal matters". "But I'm not here to have that discussion".
