FAA says has no timetable for Boeing 737 Max's return to service

The 737 MAX 7 features a modified split-scimitar winglet

"Due to the continued grounding of the Boeing 737 Max by the European aviation authorities, our flights to and from Cork and Shannon will be re-routed via Dublin for the remainder of the summer season", the airline said.

The airline initially canceled flights for the Boeing 737's through August 19, but has made a decision to extend the cancellation.

Boeing will also be under scrutiny at the airshow, where the planemaker will face questions about the 737 MAX groundings, deliveries and orders.

Ahead of the recertification of the Boeing 737 Max Aircraft grounded globally following the plane's involvement in two fatal crashes killing over 500 people, the Ethiopian Airlines says it will be the last to operate the aircraft when the ban is lifted.

Nearly a month after Boeing finished a software update for its 737 Max aircraft, it's still unclear when the plane will return to service as pressure on the aerospace manufacturer builds. Bahrami was reluctant to provide a timeline, but asked whether the plane would resume service this year or next, he said remarks by Boeing chief executive Dennis Muilenburg projecting a return by the end of 2019 sounded correct. The FAA has said that there's no time frame to sign off on Boeing's proposed fix for the jet.

Speaking on CNBC on Wednesday, Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian said he believed consumer confidence would take a while to restore, and that a MAX return to service was "probably going to be longer than anyone would like it to be".

American Airlines Group Inc. has kept the plane off its schedule through September 3, while Southwest Airlines Co. and United Continental Holdings Inc. are looking at resuming Max flights in early August. "Once the requests are addressed, Boeing will work with the FAA to schedule its certification test flight and submit final certification documentation".

Once the FAA approves the MAX for flight, Southwest has said it would take about 30 days to get the jets up and running again.
