American Airlines cancels flights past Labor Day

American Airlines extends ban on Boeing 737 Max flights till September

According to the statement, a total of about 115 flights per day will be cancelled through September.

American Airlines is pushing back the expected date on when its now grounded Boeing 737 MAX fleet could take up to the skies again.

American Airlines is extending flight cancellations on its Boeing 737 Max jets through the Labor Day weekend, even though it says it's confident the grounded planes will fly again soon.

The extension is meant to give passengers more time to plan upcoming travel, American said.

"Following the American Airlines" Sunday's (June 9th) statement, world's largest low-priced aircraft carrier maker, Boeing Co. had also released a statement saying, "(it) is partnering with our airline customers to maintain their planes in storage and will provide "entry into service' type support once they are cleared to resume commercial operation".

Amazon Will Kill Its Restaurant Delivery Service
But this doesn't mean Amazon is getting out of the delivery game: It is pushing more delivery at Whole Foods, for instance. Grubhub estimates the market has only about 15 percent penetration.

"We'll do everything possible to earn and re-earn that trust and confidence from our airline customers and the flying public in the weeks and months ahead", Muilenburg said in the statement.

The FAA's acting chief, Dan Elwell, told reporters last month he does not have a specific timetable to unground the 737 MAX.

The airline "remains confident" that the jets will be cleared for flight once Boeing rolls out software updates and "new training elements" for the pilots and crew, which are now in development. American and Dallas-based Southwest Airlines are the USA carriers with the most Max planes in their fleets.

The FAA is now working with manufacturer Boeing to certify software upgrades to the 737 Max following two fatal crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia. American is also canceling some flights scheduled to be flown by different aircraft, such as the original 737, to shift those resources to other flights.

Boeing hopes the software upgrade and associated pilot training will add layers of protection to prevent erroneous data from triggering a system called MCAS, which was activated in both the planes before they crashed.
