Huawei’s Android alternative Oak OS to go official on August or September

Google Banning Huawei Could Be A'US National Security RISK

The Commerce Department last month effectively barred US companies from selling their technology to Huawei and other Chinese firms without government approval. But the reports are that the customers are reluctant to buy Huawei phones. In the short term, the company has secured a temporary license to continue to supply software updates to existing phones.

Notably, the U.S. Department of Commerce granted a temporary exemptions that sees Google working with Huawei till August 19th, 2019 to ensure its customers have access to software, apps and security updates. Although the Financial Times' sources don't explicitly lay out Google's argument, it's not hard to imagine how it would go.

According to the sources, Google believes a Huawei-modified version of Android would be more susceptible to being hacked.

Besides, these apps will still be available on the Google Play Store. Huawei also states that its AppGallery has over 270 million monthly active users, although detailed app store data might be more important for developers contemplating publishing on Huawei's app store.

Trump warns United Tech, Raytheon merger could reduce competition
Raytheon shareholders are set to receive 2.3 shares in the combined company for each Raytheon share now owned. United Technologies and Raytheon have market capitalizations of $114 billion and $52 billion, respectively.

This could come as good news to all Huawei owners and potential users as owning a Huawei phone at this current moment would make no sense.

Huawei Technologies Co seems to be moving very fast to prepare for the launch of its self-developed operating system, as the Chinese tech giant has reportedly shipped 1 million smartphones with the software onboard for testing. No matter how secure end-to-end encryption is, if there's malware directly on a phone there's a risk it could see information sent to it.

The new OS will be open to foreign mobile apps, specifically targeting Chinese users as it needs support from the worldwide market to attract users globally. That's likely to include Google and Microsoft, which will no longer be able to allow Huawei to use their popular operating systems, services, and apps on the company's smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and laptops. Just as it's hard to separate the Trump administration's security concerns from its trade war, it's equally hard to separate Google's reported security motivations from the potential effect on its bottom line.
