Iran urges China, Russia ‘concrete actions’ to save nuclear deal

Plumes of smoke rise in Baghouz Deir Al Zor province Syria

Administration officials ordered the withdrawal of non-emergency personnel from US embassies in neighboring Iraq on Wednesday morning, after warning of unspecified threats from Iran. It also underscores how rattled Democrats are by the administration's overall Iran strategy, even as they acknowledge the veracity of the current threat that flared up earlier this month.

On Tuesday he discounted a New York Times report that the USA has updated plans that could send up to 120,000 troops to counter Iran if it attacked American forces.

The four senators say the administration's threat assessments on Iran's nuclear ambitions are "inconsistent", based on two examples. It is believed the boats are under the Revolutionary Guards's control. Asked if the USA might be on a path to war with the Iranians, the president answered, "I hope not".

President Donald Trump on Thursday will meet with the president of the Swiss government in order to try to establish a channel with which he can speak to Iranians as tensions between the country and the U.S. heighten, according to a person familiar with ongoing discussions inside the White House.

Meanwhile, senators from both sides of the aisle demanded answers from the Trump administration on the nature of the threat that led the State Department on Wednesday to order the evacuation of non-emergency personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and the consulate in Irbil in northern Iraq.

The photographs presented a different kind of threat than previously seen from Iran, said the three officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about it publicly.

Tensions have escalated in recent days with increasing concerns about a potential U.S. -Iran conflict.

Now, it appears the uncertainty hanging over the auto industry will continue to hover around for a couple more months. The car inquiry covered imports of vehicles including SUVs, vans and light trucks, as well as auto parts.

What appears to have happened since then is that pulling out created a vacuum that is now being filled by hardline officials like national security adviser John Bolton, who apparently has wanted war with Iran since he wore short trousers.

It said the Trump administration had already set a precedent with airstrikes in Syria, when the government there was suspected of using chemical weapons. "There was a scramble for Bolton and Pompeo and others to get on the same page".

A British general who appeared to dispute the White House on the threat posed by Iran was backed by a statement of support from his government Wednesday.

He was referring to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action signed in 2015 by the United States, Iran and other countries, under which Tehran curbed its uranium enrichment capacity and won sanctions relief in return. Reaching a grand bargain with Iran on terms favorable to the USA would be a massive case of oneupsmanship by Trump over his predecessor, which would gratify him on a deep level. Trump told reporters after being asked about the report.

The "ability to provide routine and emergency services to US citizens in Iraq is extremely limited" due to the current security situation, State Department officials said in an alert.

On May 5, John Bolton, US national security adviser, announced that the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group would be rushed from the Mediterranean to the Gulf ahead of schedule in response to "a number of troubling and escalatory indications and warnings". "There is no infighting whatsoever", Trump said. "And ultimately I make the decision".

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said on Thursday: "Iran does not seek tension in the region, but Tehran will defend its rights powerfully". In response, Jonathan Chait wrote a column headlined "Conservative Columnist Urges War With Iran Over 2 Percent Oil Price Hike", even though Rothman wrote military action "would be counterproductive to the [Trump] strategy they are now pursuing, which consists of imposing broad economic sanctions on Iran to harden grassroots resistance to the regime in the hopes of catalyzing a revolution".
