Trump 2020 Supporters CRASH Green New Deal Rally

Protesters gather as Mayor Bill de Blasio holds a Green New Deal rally at Trump Tower in New York City

Some Trump supporters joined the protesters who booed and yelled, "You suck!" as the mayor tried to talk over the noise.

While acknowledging that the city had worse polluting landlords, de Blasio, 58, denied he chose the Trump Tower site for political reasons. The city says the Trump Organization would be hit with $2.1 million in fines every year if it doesn't make any improvements.

"The bill that passed...will fall short of achieving the 40 x 30 reduction by only including half of the city's building stock", Real Estate Board of New York President John H. Banks said in a statement.

The Trump Building at 40 Wall Street is estimated to face a $164,565 per year. The building is on course to be fined $850,871 a year.

Serena Williams opens clay season with routine win in Rome
Venus, unseeded in the Eternal City, came through an almighty tussle with Elise Mertens 7-5 3-6 7-6 (7-4). Other results included Anett Kontaveit, Dominika Cibulkova and Garbine Muguruza all advancing.

De Blasio said he initially meant to hold Monday's news conference outside Trump Tower but moved it indoors because of the weather. "Cut your emissions or we'll cut something you really care about". While in most parts of the United States transportation is the source of most greenhouse gases, in New York City buildings are our main source of emissions. Structures that fail to cut their emissions will face fines. "We're taking climate change head-on with NYC's Green New Deal and are the first city in the world to require all big buildings to cut their emissions, with the goal of a carbon neutral city by 2050".

Trump's properties have always been identified as leading consumers of energy, although city officials say some other buildings are on track for even heavier fines. "If people want to offer their opposition, it doesn't change me one bit", he said. "With flames on our hillsides and floods in our streets, cities can not wait another moment to confront the climate crisis with everything we've got". Just like we've seen cities all over America pick up on our Pre-K plan, or Vision Zero, or our affordable housing plan.

Trump rejects climate science that links rising temperatures to human consumption of fossil fuels.

The grinning de Blasio again told reporters he is still unsure whether he will run for president himself.

According to a report in the Guardian Monday, eight Trump Organization buildings in New York City are pumping out roughly 27,000 tons of greenhouse gases every year. The plan will ban new glass buildings deemed "inefficient" and strive for carbon neutrality by 2050.
