FBI Searching for 'Armed and Dangerous' Woman After School Threat

FBI hunts woman 'infatuated' with Columbine massacre who threatened school

Authorities, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, are searching for Sol Pais who is wanted for questioning after making undisclosed threats to area schools that prompted many of them to lock their door for several hours Tuesday and at least 20 Denver-area districts to cancel classes Wednesday. Some schools released their students after additional security was called in and canceled evening activities or moved them inside.

The FBI and Jefferson County Sheriff's Office are looking for 18-year-old Sol Pais in connection to the threats.

The FBI's Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force issued a notice describing Pais as "infatuated with (the) Columbine school shooting".

Authorities are being told if they spot her, to detain her and evaluate her mental health.

Pais is about 5-foot-5, has brown hair and was last seen in the foothills of Jefferson County wearing a black T-shirt, camouflage trousers and black boots, authorities said.

The sheriff's Twitter post, which included two photos of Pais, said she was dressed in a black T-shirt, camouflage trousers and black boots.

"Her comments, her actions that we have heard about from others tend to cause us great concern that she may pose a threat to a school", he added.

The operation lasted more than an hour before students were allowed to leave their classes amid tightened security.

"We always have heightened awareness close to high-profile anniversaries like this", Billinger said. The situation arose days ahead of the 20th anniversary of the deadly shooting that occurred there on April 20, 1999. Threats were not directed to a specific school, according to sheriff's spokesperson Mike Taplin. "And in that regard, I know that this opens a wound, especially on this anniversary week, for those families who were most deeply impacted by this", Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Shrader said.

The current threat comes just days before the 20th anniversary of the Columbine school shooting, during which two students shot and killed 12 of their classmates and a teacher.

The Colorado Department of Education encouraged schools in the metro area to go into a lockout and run a controlled release of students at dismissal.

Jenny Fulton, another sheriff's spokesperson, said the FBI was investigating the apparent threat. As the district prepares for the day's memorial events, it is fending off an onslaught of curious strangers who trespass in the school's parking lot - sometimes more than 30 people in a day. Two threats were made to the school: one call said there was a bomb inside the building, another said there was a person with a gun outside of it.

"We too are taking this threat seriously", Aurora police said in a tweet.
