Apple Arcade games

Financial Times has learned that Apple Arcade could be costing overall more than $500 million.

After formally launching Apple Arcade, company has spent several hundred million dollars on 100 plus games that will include both exclusive and new titles. This is a promise the company plans to keep with its latest investment.

For those unaware, Apple's Arcade is a gaming subscription service without "Cloud-based" prefixed to it.

Although Apple Arcade is a bit of a moonshot on Apple's part, many industry analysts have been predicting that subscriptions are the future of mobile gaming. These games will be available across iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, and Macs, and they'll have cross-platform sync for save progress via iCloud. Users will be able to play these games in the offline mode as well.

Apple is reportedly spending a lot in the race to secure games for Apple Arcade. It'd be interesting to see how many game developers bring contents to the gaming platform.

Meanwhile, the Apple App Store needs users to purchase specific games and find the ones that aren't clones of the popular apps. But the comparison between the two services may be a result of activity vs. passivity, gaming is a much more active, less passive, endeavor and with TV shows, of course, users watch to unwind.

Apart from Beyond a Steel Sky developer Revolution, studios such as Disney, Sega, Lego, Konami, Snowman, Annapurna Interactive, WayForward, and Klei Entertainment all have games coming to Apple Arcade - and Apple may be planning exclusivity deals with all of them, potentially. Arcade is all set to launch in this year's fall. An estimate by HSBC foresees Apple's gaming service becoming larger than the TV+ service by 2022, and becoming a $4.5 billion business by 2024.
