Tiger Woods Will Be Awarded Presidential Medal Of Freedom

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is among the highest awards given to civilians in the United States. That's next on the list for Tiger Woods. It was his first major championship victory in 11 years.

Trump did not in his tweet specify when the ceremony will take place.

Trump is apparently particularly impressed with Woods return to the forefront of golf, as he live-tweeted the end of Woods round in Augusta and was quick to congratulate the athlete multiple times.

Charles Sifford, who was the first African American to play on the PGA Tour, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014 by Barack Obama.

Woods isn't the first sports star to receive the medal given to "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors".

Trump has already honoured three sports stars - Babe Ruth, Roger Staubach and Alan Page - since becoming president in 2017.
