Lori Loughlin, husband Mossimo Giannulli plead not guilty in college admissions scam

The decision to plead not guilty is Loughlin and Giannulli's first response to the college admissions scandal case, CNN reports.

Actress Lori Loughlin and her fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, are pleading not guilty to charges they took part in the sweeping college admissions bribery scam, according to court documents filed Monday. They are just two of 50 people indicted in connection with Operation Varsity Blues.

Among the accused parents who were his clients, 13 agreed last week to plead guilty to conspiring to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud, prosecutors say. "Loughlin and Giannulli did not appear in court and it is now not known if the judge will permit the pleas without them present". They face potential sentences ranging from a few months to a few years. "My desire to help my daughter is no excuse to break the law or engage in dishonesty".

Loughlin and Ginnulli have hired a team of high-profile attorneys to represent them in the case. So far the pair hasn't publicly addressed the allegations.

On March 12, the U.S. Attorney's Office in MA announced that it had charged 50 people, including Loughlin and fellow actress Felicity Huffman, in the cheating scandal. Huffman was accused of paying $15,000 to have someone take her daughter's Saturday.

Lori Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giannulli have officially said "no way, Jose" to a plea deal.

A new superseding indictment unsealed last Tuesday alleges that Loughlin, 54, and Giannulli, 55, disguised their bribes to the ringleader of the scam as donations to fund programs for "disadvantaged youth".

Loughlin was followed by autograph seekers while awaiting the court hearing at the J. Joseph Moakley Courthouse in the Seaport and smiled and waved to some fans as she walked into the building via metal barricades set up by court security personnel. "It is not an easy ride".
