Taking selfie in this beach will award you death penalty

You Can Get the Death Penalty for Taking

Part of the beach known as "Unseen Phuket" borders near the airport's runway and this is where the visitors are pulling out their phones to grab shots with the low planes.

Mai Khao Beach in Phuket, Thailand has attracted thousands of holidaymakers who flock to the island for one special reason - to take selfies close to landing planes.

Tourists at this Phuket Beach may face the death penalty for taking photos under a plane.

Mr Kaeothaithiam said the stretch of beach will become a designated "off limits" safety zone and members of the public will no longer be able to enter the area.

Locals and tourists have also been urged to avoid flying drones and shining flashlights at planes, which have equally become a distraction for incoming planes.

Airport chief Wichit Kaeothaithiam told the publication that stricter regulations are needed due to safety concerns and that violators must be subject to punishments under the Air Navigation Act.

"If the beach is closed, we will have serious problems because many tourists simply will not come", Winai Sae-io, head of a local entrepreneurial stimulus program, told The Phuket News.

'I want (Airports of Thailand, which operates Phuket International Airport) to look at us and support locals in making (a) living here, too'.

Mai Khao beach isn't the only location in the world where selfie-snapping tourists have been a problem.

"The maximum penalty is the death sentence", said Wichit.

While he agreed boosting airport revenue is important, he stressed tourism and safety must co-exist.

For those that violate the new rule the punishment could lead to more than $1,000 in fines and up to 20 years in prison, per The Sun UK. You will have to pay the penalty with your life for taking photos of the runway area near the beach.
