In announcing the march, Mr Farage said: "All of us who want Britain to be a great country once again accept that we must be prepared to stand up for what we believe in and fight for our independence".

The group says the vehicles will ensure "marchers, onlookers and the rest of the nation are reminded of the contradictions, lies and hypocrisies that Nigel Farage has peddled throughout his campaign to ensure the United Kingdom leaves the European Union in the most disruptive and risky way possible". If politicians think they can walk all over us, then we're going to march back and tell them they can't.

The March to Leave set off from the North East city on Saturday morning, and will make its way over to London over 14 days, arriving in the capital on March 29, where a mass rally will take place on Parliament Square.

Angry rows have already broken out at the start of the march, with several anti-Brexit protesters assembling. One set off blue and yellow flares, the colours of the European Union, as protesters chanted "exit Brexit".

But the pro-Brexit campaigners aren't their only ones to lace up their boots to march.

Three men carried a large banner emblazoned with the slogan Leave Means Leave, and another man could be seen waving a flag with the message: 'Get Britain Out: Time to leave the European Union'.

He said: "The democracy in the Parliament building has been spot on". "I'm sorry, but that really riles me".

One counter-protester, Frank Hindle, said he was there "to point out that not everybody agrees with this crowd".

The walkers are due to travel from Hartlepool to Middlesbrough on Sunday.

Nigel added: "We've got 50 core marchers that are going to march all the way to London, and as each day goes by, different people will join".
