Alleged mosque shooter was armed to kill even more people

New Zealand PM got terrorist's 'manifesto' 9 minutes before church attack death toll goes up to 50

He was not a resident of Christchurch, the prime minister added. "To see so many innocent lives taken so callously and cruelly in this place of sanctuary is totally unacceptable".

Church services for victims of the attack were held around the country, including at Christchurch's "Cardboard Cathedral", a temporary structure built after much of the central city was destroyed in a 2011 quake. Vehicles are prohibited, but people can walk closer to the mosques where the shooting happened on Friday. The attack on the Al Noor and Linwood mosques has prompted an outpouring of grief and deep shock in this usually peaceful coun.

New Zealand police say they have found another body at one of the mosques that was attacked, raising the death toll in the shootings to 50.

"But we are so aware of the cultural and religious needs". More people were killed in an attack on a second mosque a short time later.

"We were. family people with no malice, no aggression and nothing but love for this country", he said.

"We are a Forum family and what affects one, affects all. We want to lay them to rest".

However, witnesses have described how many more lives could have been lost, if not for the courage of a worker at Linwood Mosque. Eleven people remained in intensive care, hospital authorities said.

Hungry for any news, families and friends of the victims gathered at the city's Hagley College, near the hospital. "I was recently united with my son, who has a gunshot wound to the leg and backside", she wrote. This is not something that we expected to see in our environment.

"We we are sending out Pacific music of healing and hope for our Muslim communities in Aotearoa".

Two other people were in custody and police said they were working to understand their involvement.

"There is one charge of murder brought at the moment, it is reasonable to assume that there will be others", the presiding judge noted.

At a Sunday news conference, Arden used some of her strongest language yet about gun control, saying that laws need to change and "they will change".

The 28-year-old posted a 74-page "manifesto" online before the attack, and a 17-minute video was also uploaded of him arming himself and entering a mosque where he started shooting.

"I was one of more than 30 recipients of the manifesto that was mailed out nine minutes before the attack took place", Ardern told reporters on Sunday. The courtroom was closed to the public because of the heightened security risk.

All of the guns Tarrant used during the attack were purchased legally, according to gun laws and restrictions in New Zealand. The PM has also called a crucial cabinet meet on Monday.

Parliament will pay tribute to the victims on Tuesday.
