Man City face FIFA transfer ban

Andreas Christensen joined Chelsea from Danish side Brondby in 2012

Pep Guardiola insists it is business as usual for Manchester City amid speculation that alleged Financial Fair Play (FFP) breaches and a subsequent UEFA investigation could result in a transfer ban for the Premier League champions.

Chelsea have been banned from signing players for the next two transfer windows - they are appealing against the sanction - and City are expected to receive the same punishment once the case against them has been completed.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Manchester City could miss out of Champions League next term due to their Financial Fair Play row with Europe's football governing body, UEFA.

The ban apparently stems from the club's relationship with FC Nordsjaelland and Ghana's Right to Dream football factory.

Last year, two players from the academy, Sierra Leone's George Davies and Ghanaian Dominic Oduro, told Danish media they signed for City and played in youth matches before they turned 18.

It was claimed that City topped up multi-million-pound sponsorship deals with Abu Dhabi companies in order to circumvent rules around how much money owner Sheikh Mansour could put into the club.

The Champions League quarter-final draw has thrown up some tricky ties for the English sides

Federation Internationale de Football Association has been investigating City's worldwide transfers for several years, although the club were cleared of breaking the rules when they signed Benjamin Garre from Velez Sarsfield in 2016 just after the Argentinian midfielder's 16th birthday.

A spokesperson said: "We have no comment on the matter at this stage".

According to The Sun, FIFA are set to announce within days that City breached rules over the transfer of minors.

City were drawn against Premier League rivals Tottenham in the Champions League quarter-finals on Friday and Guardiola knows his side will have to be at their best to control their potent attacking threat.

The FA and the Premier League are looking into the transfer, which took place in 2014 and which i has been told was not declared to the league during the amnesty period. I'm very clear: the club made a statement. "The squad's good, it's really good".

Real were able to get their ban reduced on appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport - an avenue Chelsea will also explore.
