Australian politician sparks outrage when he blames ‘Muslim immigration’ for mosque attack

Fraser Anning strikes the young activist who egged him

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Anning mentioned in the news conference that many of his supporters in his home state of Queensland are under the age of 35.

The Senator later took to Twitter to further express his opinions.

The egging was in response to Fraser saying that Muslim immigration was to blame for the Thursday night shooting attack in Christchurch New Zealand in which 49 people were killed while attending religious services in mosques.

His comments sparked outrage across the country, and an online petition calling for his removal from parliament gained over 265 000 signatures within 24 hours.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison today announced the Coalition and Labor would pass a motion when Australian Parliament returns next month, censuring Mr Anning for the statement he issued yesterday that linked the Christchurch mosque attacks to immigration. Stating that he was opposed to "any form of violence", Anning claimed that the atrocity highlighted the "growing fear over an increasing Muslim presence", in both New Zealand and Australia. Police have arrested an Australian citizen in relation to the massacre.

Citing a verse from the Bible, he added that "those who follow a violent religion that calls on them to murder us, can not be too surprised when someone takes them at their word and responds in kind".

Andreescu broke Muguruza at love and then served out the match after a deuce game, hitting consecutive forehand winners. A week later, after making it to the final in Auckland, New Zealand, Andreescu was 107th in the world.

The Queensland senator drew global condemnation for his efforts to blame the attack that killed 49 Muslim worshippers on immigration.

He wrote: "Does anyone still dispute the link between Muslim immigration and violence? Those views have no place in Australia, let alone the Australian Parliament", Morrison tweeted.

Australian Senator Fraser Anning responded to having an egg cracked against the back of his head by turning around and slapping the perpetrator during a live television interview.

Speaking to media at Lakemba mosque in Sydney, the prime minister said the comments were "appalling and they're ugly and they have no place in Australia".

He said Australians should "call time" on hate speech.
