Saudi Arabia rejects call for international probe of Khashoggi murder

Saudi Human Rights official: Brought perpetrators of Khashoggi murder to justice

The United States' annual human rights report painted a slightly different picture, accusing agents of the Kingdom of being directly responsible for Khashoggi's death in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last October.

Despite claims Qahtani was sacked by the Saudi leadership in the aftermath of Khashoggi's murder, the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal have reported that Qahtani continues to advise the crown prince.

Aiban insisted that his country was "horrified by what has happened pursuant to this unfortunate accident".

Some Western governments have accused Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of being implicated in the murder.

"We urge Saudi Arabia to tell the world which individuals are now on trial on what charge (s)", Altun said, to lay to rest any doubts that may arise about the "sincerity" of the judicial proceedings in the kingdom.

After countries around the world, including every European Union member nation, encouraged Saudi Arabia to cooperate with an worldwide investigation into the Washington Post journalist's death, Bandar bin Mohammed al-Aiban responded Thursday, saying his country already took care of everything.

India Hopes US Will Extend Waiver of Sanctions Imposed on Iranian Oil
The Trump administration has used the threat of insurance liabilities to pressure countries into blocking Iranian ships. India's optimism stems from a series of meetings following a reduction in oil imports from Iran, officials indicated.

Aiban said the case against the suspects is ongoing and so far, they have appeared in court for three hearings with their lawyers present.

Aiban's statements come a week after a rare censure of Saudi Arabia by 36 countries demanding transparency into the Khashoggi investigation.

"None of their human rights have been violated and they have been subjected to no form of torture or cruel" treatment, Aiban clarified. "Such demands made upon us are tantamount to the worldwide community doubting the integrity of our judicial apparatus and doubting the independence of our judiciary", he said. US lawmakers have said they believe he ordered the killing of the royal critic.

Saudi Arabia initially said it had no knowledge of his fate.

Eleven men are on trial in Saudi Arabia, accused of involvement in the killing.

The CIA concluded late past year that bin Salman ordered the journalist's assassination, an accusation that has been echoed by U.S. senators and other observers. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Assiri said Aiban's refusal to allow an worldwide independent investigation suggests officials at the highest levels "are hiding something". "The person who ordered this operation is still safe and he is still leading the country", Assiri said, referring to Salman.
