Rapper 21 Savage released from ICE detention but could still be deported

Grammy-nominated rapper 21 Savage was granted release on bond from USA immigration detention Tuesday, his lawyers said - nine days after his arrest sparked outrage among fellow music stars, fans and immigrant rights advocates alike.

Immigration lawyer Tia Smith said in an email that the rapper, whose given name is She'yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was released Wednesday on $100,000 U.S. bond.

He was pictured posing with his mother, Heather Joseph, as they prepared to board a private jet. A lawyer for 21 Savage says Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, that the Grammy-nominated rapper, whose given name is She'yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, has been released on on $100,000 bond from the Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, Ga.

It came after he was granted bond by an immigration judge on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, 21 Savage's lawyers also passed on a message to the young rapper's fans, saying that while he was not at Sunday's Grammys Awards - "he was there in spirit and is grateful for the support from around the world".

21 Savage made a decision to head straight home to Atlanta with his mum after being released on bond following his arrest by ICE.
