However, the Middle East nation has withdrawn the request, leading a Thai court to approve a motion by prosecutors to drop the case against the footballer, said Chatchom Akapin, an official in the Thai Attorney-General's office.
Hakeem Al-Araibi, who is a Bahraini citizen, fled to Australia in 2014 and was granted political asylum.
He was detained upon his arrival in Bangkok in November while on a holiday at the request of Bahrain relayed through Interpol. He has been living in Melbourne, where he plays for a semi-professional soccer team.
