Amazon offers up regulatory guidelines for facial recognition

Amazon Supports Facial Recognition Legislation

‪The groups cited use of Rekognition by law enforcement in OR and Florida and warned that the tool could be used to target immigrants and people of color unfairly.

"The use of facial recognition technology must comply with all laws, including laws that protect civil rights", Punke wrote.

"It's critical that any legislation protect civil rights while also allowing for continued innovation and practical application of the technology..."

"When facial recognition technology is used by law enforcement for identification, or in a way that could threaten civil liberties, a 99% confidence score threshold is recommended".

Punke stressed the benefits of facial-recognitions systems, like finding missing children and identifying suspects in crimes. The blog post also champions transparency from law enforcement offices using facial recognition technology along with written notices that will make the public aware of when the technology is being used on premises, much like video surveillance signs you might see at a store.

Law and order: Punke said Amazon is in favor of requiring law enforcement to be transparent about use of the technology; mandating disclosure when it's used in public places; and including human oversight when the technology is used in law enforcement.

Amazon has consistently faced ongoing outcry over its contentious Rekognition software, but that apparently isn't stopping the company from testing out facial recognition technology on its sellers. The company is engaging with NIST and other stakeholders, and supports efforts by academics to establish independent trusted criteria, benchmarks, and evaluation protocols for facial recognition.

Contracts will allow players to increase their reputation with different factions, granting them access to crafting blueprints. You can customize them with the gear you earn and craft, then use them to fly, leap, and climb through a contiguous open world.

In India, Duggal said, anybody can misuse this technology without fears of facing any adverse legal consequences. We're also committed to educating customers on best practices, and ensuring diverse perspectives in our technology development teams.

It is being widely conjectured that Amazon has recorded/is recording these five-second long video snippets as a part of measures to clamp down upon fake sellers and sellers of counterfeit goods.

"We will record a 5-second video of your face", the company said. "To proceed, enable access to your webcam".

Amazon did not dispute the veracity of the information provided to Buzzfeed, and declined to answer questions about the process, including whether it uses AWS Rekognition, and whether it has updated its privacy policy to address biometric data collection and storage.

The technology is particularly prone to misidentify people of different ethnicities, civil liberties groups argue.

"Amazon should make it crystal clear they are not exploiting this sensitive face data to, for example, enrich the face surveillance product that a coalition of 90 groups just demanded the company stop providing to governments", Cagle says.

In the case of Amazon, what is very obvious however is that the giant is determined to rid its platform of sellers who go on to create multiple accounts, ghost or stealth accounts.
