Benjamin Netanyahu admits Israel to blame for Damascus strikes

‘We struck thousands of targets’: IDF chief of staff on Israel’s ‘near-daily’ strikes in Syria

"In the last 36 hours, the air force attacked Iranian warehouses with Iranian weapons at the worldwide airport in Damascus", the Israeli prime minister said at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting.

Israel is believed to have carried out hundreds of airstrikes against Iranian and Hezbollah targets throughout the Syrian civil war, but generally avoids commenting about them.

Only recently has it begun to speak publicly about thwarting the weapons smuggling from Iran through Styria into Lebanon.

In a New York Times interview published Friday, Lt Gen Eisenkot - the man who is credited with marshalling Israel's Syria campaign against Hezbollah and Iran - revealed the government approved his shift in strategy in January 2017 to step up airstrikes in Syria.

"We have been taking action with impressive success to arrest Iran's military entrenchment in Syria", Netanyahu told his cabinet in televised remarks.

"According to our intelligence and our assessment of the situation there are no longer any cross-border attack tunnels from Lebanon into Israel".

"Overnight, the air force also attacked on the southern front against Hamas targets in Gaza and this morning we announced the exposure of an additional tunnel, a main tunnel, perhaps the most important, that crossed the border into our territory".

House GOP leader: ‘Action will be taken’ after King’s white supremacy comment
He said it was a "mistake" to use phrasing that "created an unnecessary controversy" and denied being racist. Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy promises to take action against Iowa Rep.

The Israeli military said a sixth tunnel was found on Saturday, 55 meters (yards) deep and reaching "a few tens of meters" into Israeli territory from 800 meters within Lebanon.

It included stairs, a rail system and a wide a passageway that allowed for the movement of equipment and a large number of forces.

Israel and the United Nations say the tunnels violate a cease-fire resolution that ended a devastating war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006.

The powerful Shiite militant Hezbollah, which acts independently in Lebanon, has yet to comment on the Israeli discoveries.

In the wake of its discoveries, Israel has asked the worldwide community to impose tough sanctions on Hezbollah and begin to act against its state-within-a-state operation in Lebanon.

Israel has pledged to prevent its enemy Iran from entrenching itself militarily in Syria, where it is backing President Bashar Assad's regime alongside Russian Federation and Hezbollah. It said the Iranian-backed organization Hezbollah dug. He added that Hezbollah retained underground facilities on the Lebanese side.
