Red Sox Avoid Arbitration With Mookie Betts on Record Deal

Red Sox arbitration tracker Six players still unsigned after deadline

BostonþÄôs Mookie Betts and MilwaukeeþÄôs Christian Yelich were runaway winners of the Most Valuable Player awards after the 26-year-old outfielders each led their teams to first-place finishes with dominant seasons that included batting titles.

The Boston Red Sox avoided arbitration with several eligible players by agreeing to deals prior to Friday's 1:00 p.m. ET deadline.

Being the best all-around player on a World Series winning team certainly has its perks. He made four starts and six relief appearances, went back on the disabled list in late June because of the knee, then returned in September. His record-setting deal will establish the new standard for players with four-plus years of Major League Baseball service time. His almost $10 million jump is the highest arbitration raise ever received by a position player.

The $20 million sets a new standard for players with four or more years of service, and it nearly doubles the salary for Betts, who was awarded $10.5 million in 2017 after the Red Sox had countered with a $7.5 million offer.

The RTX 2080 will crush the AMD Radeon VII - CEO
To further drive in the point, AMD CEO Lisa Su demoed the game Devil May Cry 5 in 4K at the company's CES presentation. On average, the Radeon VII is putting up scores that are roughly 29 percent faster than the Radeon RX Vega 64 .

Nevertheless, this just goes to show that if the Red Sox hope to keep Betts in Boston for the foreseeable future - as most fans are hoping - they are going to have to break open the bank vault and shower him in dollar signs.

Sources told MLB.com and ESPN that deGrom and the Mets also avoided arbitration with a one-year, $17 million deal on Friday in his second year of eligibility.

Shortstop Xander Bogaerts is entering his final year of arbitration, as is Brock Holt.

The website also predicts Jackie Bradley Jr., who is in his second arbitration-eligible year, will receive $7.9 million.
