A snow plough clears the A9 highway in Garching southern Germany

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said they were "aware of reports" that an Australian had died in Austria.

An Australian teenager is dead after being trapped under six feet of snow in an avalanche that tragically ended a family holiday to the Austrian Alps in St. Anton am Arlberg, on January 10.

Max Meyer was part of the mock trials team at the International Grammar School in Sydney.

Max Meyer was skiing in St Anton am Arlberg in Austria when he was buried under a huge wall of snow. The family was in untracked and steep terrain when Meyer became trapped by the avalanche.

Rescuers were unable to revive him.

The boy was reportedly a student at Sydney's International Grammar School, which has offered support to fellow students.

Parents at the school were told counsellors and senior staff would be on hand at the school today.
