NBC News, Megyn Kelly reach separation agreement

Megyn Kelly’s fate at NBC was sealed when she pondered why “blackface” is frowned upon during a live panel discussion last year

Megyn Kelly and NBC have officially parted ways, three months after she stopped appearing on the network after making a widely criticized comment about blackface.

Bowing to the terms of the contract, NBC will pay Kelly the remaining sum of money, believed to total about $30 million, two of the sources said. News has reached its professional divorce agreement with anchor Kelly.

In a statement released by NBC on Saturday, the network said that it had resolved its differences with Kelly and that she was no longer an employee.

Even before the controversial commentary, her future was considered limited at NBC News.

She brought up blackface during a segment the week before Halloween while holding a round-table discussion with an all-white panel about offensive costumes.

Megyn Kelly and NBC News have finalized a multi-million dollar settlement deal, Mediaite has learned. The episode with Trump accusers had more than 2.9 million viewers, one of her biggest audiences on the network.

Last September, Kelly publicly contradicted part of Lack's account about why NBC opted not to air Ronan Farrow's reporting about Harvey Weinstein. And "Megyn Kelly Today" was defined by disappointing ratings and awkward moments, with the host sometimes seeming ill-suited for the bubbly world of morning television. She hosted a daytime talk show, started a Sunday night news show and was to be featured in regular political coverage on the network's news programs. "I want to look at everything", she said.

"You truly do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface at Halloween or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween", she added.

Kelly said it was acceptable when she was a kid to don black face "as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character". NBC would not comment Friday on whether the separation agreement allows her to write about her experiences at the network.

It's not immediately clear what's next for Kelly.
