GoFundMe is refunding all donations made to the 'Build the Wall' fundraiser

The GoFundMe campaign for Trump's border wall is refunding donors

Business Insider reports that when the campaign was started, founder Brian Kolfage promised all donations would be used to pay for a border wall between the USA and Mexico once the $1 billion goal was reached.

The campaign had raised $20 million as of Friday afternoon.

A GoFundMe campaign to subsidize what it called "the Trump Wall" will refund all money to donors because it did not meet its $1 billion goal, said Bobby Whithorne, director of North America Communications for GoFundMe.

Triple-amputee veteran Brian Kolfage launched a GoFundMe account in December, quickly piling up donations as Trump was unable to get Congress to fund the wall - leading to a now three-week-old partial shutdown of the government. I am honoring that commitment today.

(THV11) - The organizers behind a massive GoFundMe campaign to help pay for President Trump's border wall are now instead planning to build a wall on the southern border themselves. In GoFundMe's view, that means they can refund donors' money. He also introduced a new 501 (c)(4) non-profit Florida Corporation named "We Build the Wall, Inc.", where donors can redirect their refunds to if they still wish for their money to be used, in one way or another, to build a wall.

Not many people would label Gwyneth Paltrow as having an embarrassing disposition, but her teenage daughter would beg to differ. While speaking during a Cannes Lions discussion with Stephen Sakur, she said: "My children know that we're in a loving family".

CBS News reports Kolfage gave donors the option of giving their GoFundMe contribution to himself and a team he assembled to construct the border wall.

BuzzFeed also said that a 2015 GoFundMe campaign started by Kolfage raised over $16,000 for a veteran mentorship program. "Better equipped than our own federal government, we have made significant progress in less than a month, having begun extensive due diligence and commenced feasibility studies", Kolfage commented.

In the Friday update on the GoFundMe page, the group said it had come to the conclusion that the federal government wouldn't be able to accept their donations anytime soon. "We are already taking action on identifying the most densely crossed areas of the border, soliciting affected landowners along the Southern border, and ascertaining the willingness of border landowners to provide no or low-priced easements on their property for wall construction".

While there are a range of estimates to fully build a border wall along the southern border, many estimates exceed $20 billion. "Our team strongly believes that we can complete our segments of the wall for less than half of the government's estimated costs on a per mile basis".
