Elon Musk shows off prototype of Mars-bound rocket, Starship

Starship test flight rocket just finished assembly at the SpaceX Texas launch site

The layoffs were reported earlier Friday by the Los Angeles Times.

The statement did not disclose the size of the layoffs, but a company source, speaking on background, estimated the cuts at 10 percent of the workforce. "This means we must part ways with some talented and hardworking members of our team", the company said.

Elon Musk, who heads the company, believes it will cost $10bn (£7.7bn) to develop a spaceship which could send people to Mars.

Laid-off employees are going to be offered at least eight weeks' pay and other benefits, along with help in finding new employment.

Word of the reductions came just hours after SpaceX executed its first Falcon 9 rocket launch of the year, putting 10 Iridium NEXT satellites into low Earth orbit, and a day after Musk hailed the assembly of a subscale test prototype for SpaceX's interplanetary Starship spacecraft.

Martin enters his age-36 season, coming off a 2018 in which he hit.194 with a.338 on-base average; good for a.663 OPS for Toronto. The four-time all-star has also played for the New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates over his 13-year big-league career.

SpaceX, which has developed reusable rockets and is working on Starship for a future anticipated Mars mission, gets most of its income from launching payloads for both private companies and the U.S. government.

Another $10 billion project called Starlink would create a constellation of satellites to provide affordable broadband internet service.

Last summer, the company fired some senior managers at the company's Redmond, Washington, office, because of disagreements over the pacing of the development and testing of its Starlink satellite programme.

The company also is pressing ahead with development of a new space launch system known as the Starship, a fully reusable launch system SpaceX officials say will be the most powerful in the world, capable of carrying humans to Mars and other deep space destinations.
