Apple to Introduce a Three-Camera Setup With the Next iPhone Flagship

Offering what sound like iterative updates in 2019 could prove to be a controversial decision on Apple's part.

Early reports suggest that Apple is, yet again, planning to release three new iPhones this year.

Apple might have admitted to less than flawless sales performance for its current iPhones, but a report suggests the company will plough on with its three phone strategy in 2019.

The other two phones will apparently have dual-lens cameras, which would mean no change in the number of lenses for the iPhone XS successor (which we're calling the iPhone 11 for now) but would be one extra for the iPhone XR successor. The iPhone XS Max is the largest handset Apple has ever launched with a 6.5-inch screen.

Apple is to release another cheaper iPhone next year as part of a trio of smartphone launches as it battles to revive sluggish recent sales for its latest models.

Apple, like other handset makers, has been grappling with the reality that consumers aren't upgrading their phones as often as they once did.

Last year, Apple released the most expensive iPhone in its history. The price cuts likely came from distributors of Apple products, which Canalys estimates sells a quarter of all iPhones in China. Apple (aapl) is also considering adding a triple-lens camera system to one of the 2019 models in a bid to compete with Samsung and others that are readying similar camera systems, the Journal's sources said.

While Apple reportedly plans new cameras as the standout features of its 2019 smartphones, the company may also remove features to cut costs. "Or, Apple might be under pressure to clean out its stock of iPhones", he said. Currently, the iPhone XR is the only model that doesn't have 3D Touch and instead has Haptic Touch, a feature that uses long-display presses and haptic feedback to evoke new actions.
