Helicopter rescues injured skier in French Alps, dramatic video shows

A helicopter pilot showed off their incredible navigation skills when they rescued an injured skier in France last week.

The jaw-dropping footage was captured by Nicolas Derely on the Pass of Anterne in Passy, France on December 2.

The man, named as Bruno, had become exhausted and suffered an agonising fall. It shows the helicopter approaching from a different angle before it hovers close to the mountainside to allow the rescue workers to jump out of the helicopter with their equipment. Luckily, 9NEWS reports, his team was able to call the emergency services despite being well above cloud level, at an altitude of around 7 000 feet.

The awesome video that is now going viral shows the helicopter finding the man on the hill and slowly lowering, cramming it's nose into the snow while the rest of the vehicle remained airborne.

French mountain police are seen helping the injured skier after landing, before hoisting him into a helicopter.

With the helicopter's rotor blades just inches away from smashing into the snow, the skier was winched away to a nearby hospital.
