Google Chrome’s ad-blocking feature will roll out worldwide in July

The expanded ad-blocking functionality in Chrome will go live on July 9th, Google has confirmed.

Google will expand Chrome's recent adblocking endeavors beyond the U.S., Canada, and Europe later this year, the company has announced.

Chrome users who want to continue seeing ads on abusive sites can disable this feature by going into Settings and searching for "Ads " or by going to Settings - Advanced - Content - Ads. As we mentioned, it rolled out in three regions - US, Canada, and Europe - back in February 2018.

The Coalition for Better Ads recently announced that it would expand its Better Ads Standards beyond North America and Europe to cover all countries and Google is following suit with its own ad blocking efforts.

Australia charges man over suspicious foreign mission parcels
Police said they have identified all the intended recipients and have put procedures in place to recover the outstanding packages. More than a dozen foreign offices received suspicious packages on Wednesday, including the USA and British missions in Melbourne.

The Better Ads Standards consists of 12 ad experiences that research found to be particularly annoying to users. This browser version blocked disruptive ads on websites that continually breached the advertising guidelines drafted by the CBA.

There are four negative ad types on desktop (pop-up ads, auto-playing video ads with sound, prestitial ads with countdown, large sticky ads) and eight on mobile (pop-up ads, prestitial ads, ad density higher than 30 percent, flashing animated ads, auto-playing video ads with sound, postitial ads with countdown, full-screen scrollover ads, large sticky ads).

Chrome has been ostensibly blocking these "intrusive" ads for many of us since a year ago, but it will start following the same behavior in the rest of the world beginning on July 9th.

As far as website owners and publishers are concerned, they must ensure that ads displayed on their website do not violate the guidelines by using the "Ad Experience Report" tool. Moreover, they can also resolve issues in case any of the ads have been flagged as intrusive and can also challenge a review which may have wrongfully labelled an as ad as such. Google analyzes sites and warns those with overly intrusive ads that they'll be added to a blacklist if they don't change their ways.
