Bill Gates' letter to Imran Khan talks about interest in IT investment

He was accompanying WHO's Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and WHO's Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Region Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari.

Dr Adhanom congratulated the prime minister on his victory in the recent general elections.

He added that the WHO would provide all the necessary support to implement the Prime Minister's National Health Programme and to address the critical issue of stunting and malnutrition in Pakistan.

According to media reports, Bill and Melinda Gates foundation President Chris Elias contacted Imran Khan and gave the letter to the PM.

The prime minister also thanked Bill Gates Foundation for assistance in the eradication of polio.

He said the polio vaccination activities were well organised in close collaboration with provinces and were directly overseen by the national, provincial and divisional task forces.

Dr. Naima Abid says authorities told visiting head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, that Islamabad is taking measures to make Pakistan polio-free by the end of 2019. A month ago, billionaire philanthropist Gates had called PM Khan and discussed the steps the government had taken to eradicate polio from the country.

During the meeting, Imran Khan reiterated his commitment to move forward sustainable development agenda.

The foreign minister reiterated that the government remains committed to ensuring provision of quality health facilities to all people at all levels.
