Search under way after US military aircraft ‘mishap’ off Japan

An FA-18 fighter jet lands at the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture western Japan

One U.S. Marine was rescued, but six others were missing late Wednesday after two Marine Corps aircraft collided while refueling in mid-air during a regularly scheduled training exercise off the coast of Japan. There were five personnel on board the KC-130 and two on board the F/A-18 at the time of the incident, a Marine official told ABC News.

The Marine Corps tweeted that the incident occurred at about 02:00 on Thursday (17:00 GMT Wednesday).

The last major US military aircraft incident occurred in May when an Air National Guard C-130 cargo plane crashed outside Savannah, killing all nine personnel on board.

There is no official word on where the incident took place.

A US official told Fox News that seven Marines were on board the two aircraft.

Facebook is accused of using this data to assess "not just how many people had downloaded apps, but how often they used them". The documents didn't reveal what policy Facebook used to decide which firms were worthy of the privilege and which were not.

The Marine Corps said Japanese search-and-rescue aircraft immediately responded to aid in recovery efforts.

MCAS Iwakuni is also home to the "Sumos" of VMGR-152, a Marine KC-130J squadron that is highly active throughout the Western Pacific.

The US has more than 50,000 troops stationed in Japan, more than 18,000 of them in the US Marine Corps.
