Kate Middleton nails Christmas style in thousand-dollar plaid

Britain has two military bases on the east Mediterranean island, which was a colony until 1960.

Earlier that day, on December 4, William and Kate hosted a Christmas party at Kensington Palace for families and children of deployed RAF personnel.

It comes after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Charles and Camilla, and the Queen all stepped out in their finest for the Queen's Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday night.

The witty dad joke from HRH garnered quite some laugh from both Kate and the military personnel who were all captured laughing at William's one-liner. "We should never forget our military families and all the service you do for us all".

He said: "He saw I had some in my hand and he had a little mischievous nod and wink and looked like he wanted one to throw back at us".

After meeting air and ground crew from RAF Akrotiri and other forces, the duke said: "Thank you for your commitment and thank you for your sacrifices".

"Do you want me to move out of the photo?" he asked with a smile.

He is grateful that he will be with family this Christmas, saying: "This year I was away for seven months on operations before moving here, so it's nice just to be back together again".

Later, William and Kate joined a Christmas afternoon tea where families stationed on the base were enjoying a selection of cakes and pastries. William and I, however, hope that today shows, in some small way, how much you are all valued'.

"When William served in the Falklands or went search and rescue, I remember how it felt".
