IPL 2019: Over 1000 Cricketers Register For the Mega Auctions

Upon officially confirmation of the date and venue for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the number of cricketers who have registered for the posh event. 800 uncapped players, including 746 Indians and 232 overseas players have thrown their hat in the ring. For the first time ever, the list includes players from Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Puducherry, the nine new teams in the Indian domestic circuit.

There are on 70 spots available across the eight franchises that will compete in IPL 2019, and Australia is second behind South Africa in terms of hopefuls with 35 players registered.

The board also announced that Hugh Edmeades, an independent fine art, classic vehicle and charity auctioneer will be the new auctioneer, in place of Richard Madley. USA, Hong Kong and Ireland have one player each in the initial list.

Franchises have been given time till 5:00 PM IST on December 10 to send in their shortlist of players.

Earlier, during the retention period, which ended on November 15, many franchises came up with surprises, releasing their crucial players ahead of the auctions.

As the tournament prepares to enter its 12th edition, Hugh Edmeades, an independent fine art, classic auto and charity auctioneer will be the new gavel master.
