British woman Grace Millane, 22, missing during year out in New Zealand

LAST MOVEMENTS The backpacker was captured on CCTV

Police are searching for a young tourist who went missing after "constant contact" with her family suddenly stopped.

'Grace has been missing for five days.

Mr Millane said she's always in contact with her family.

Her brother, Michael Millane, told Sky News the last person to speak to his sister was their mother last Thursday, and that not hearing anything from her was unusual.

Grace's father will fly to New Zealand, Michael said.

She had been in South America with friends previously but set off on her own to New Zealand where she was staying at Base Backpackers in Auckland.

Michael told the Evening Standard: 'It was her birthday on Sunday and when she didn't make any contact with us by Monday, we knew something was wrong - she hadn't linked any of the comments wishing her a happy birthday on Facebook or anything.

"We sort of noticed Gracie hadn't really texted back or hadn't read anything, which was obviously really odd because it was her birthday", he said.

Grace Millane is a 22-year-old woman from Essex, UK who arrived in New Zealand about two weeks ago.

University led by Ignatieff forced to relocate out of Hungary
Hungary's government spokesman called the Central European University's Monday announcement to move courses to Vienna "a political bluff".

It was her first time travelling solo.

Before coming to New Zealand she travelled as part of an organised group through South America for six weeks.

The family have posted a plea on Facebook in the hope other travellers in New Zealand can help in the search.

The family of a British woman who went missing in New Zealand almost a week ago are appealing for information on her whereabouts.

On Thursday morning police stated they had "nothing further to share".

Her family reported her missing to New Zealand Police who are in the process of investigating her disappearance.

Tony McLeod, British High Commission Wellington consular manager, said the commission was aware of the missing person report.

Declan Millane said a few people had reached out to the family with potential sightings.

Base Backpackers declined to comment to the Herald yesterday.
